TORINO

Poi siamo arrivati in via Roma.
Poche persone a passeggio. Nessuna macchina.

Turin is my perfect town. Turin IS my town.
I had another proof tonight. A crystal clear and cold evening . I was on a bike, but I wasn’t riding; sitting back, on the rack, without worrying about the road, I could enjoy the whole town, beautiful at night as much as during the day.
We started from Piazza Vittorio, where I didn’t even realize what I was going to see, the cars and their lights had dominated the scene.
Turning on via Principe Amedeo I saw old cafè and shops, which made me feel like in previous years, when the hangs out were a must, and new cafè and shops which surprised me.
Turin is not like Milan, Turin is shy … aware of traditions … it doesn’t accept easily new fashion, it doesn’t accept new styles without first examining them and make them own. It doesn’t strut with decorated shop windows, because it doesn’t need to attract anyone’s attention. Turin is beautiful as it is and it knows it.
…. But tonight I have seen that is changing, again. I saw a french style café revisited with the window showing cakes and cupcakes,  with a lot of lace and decorated plates. In front of this cafè a colorful pub, that makes you feeling in South America. And shops again with pallet and wood installations.

Then we got to via Roma. Nothing compares to its grandeur and to taste his silence on a cold evening winter.
And here we are in Piazza San Carlo. Few people walk. No cars. The crunch of the cobblestones under the wheels, the echoing notes of “con te partirò” played by a violin in a open cafeteria under the arcades, the wind in my hair … Make me feel being in a movie with that soundtrack in background and with the frame moving first on the arcades, then on the statue and finally on the two churches. San Carlo and Santa Cristina stay there, fairs and beautiful after their restoration, they look at you and they let you go. And you feel full of freedom, freedom without reason that one you feel at 20, and you thought you could not try anymore.

And then at home, passing over corso Castelfidardo and over corso Lione … the beauty of the tree-lined avenue that surround beautiful buildings.
And soon my imagination moves inside those buildings, where there are hundred apartments … ah! Restyle them all! What a dream!

I didn’t take any pictures tonight. I just watched.
Tonight I’ve kept Torino in my heart.
